Weird Office Furniture

The Surf Chair®

Do you think a red Swingline stapler is unique? You’ve got some catching up to do. When cubicles don’t do the trick, some offices are livening things up a bit with, shall we say, creative office furniture. How about something straight out of a sci fi flick in the Surf Chair? Forget ergonomics—you know you want something that blows your mind. The fact that it’s super comfortable doesn’t hurt, either.

If you still want something with a human touch, how about some human body inspired designs? It’s the perfect conversation piece for a waiting room. Maybe your office space isn’t big enough for something like that.

If you still want something with a human touch, how about some human body inspired designs? It’s the perfect conversation piece for a waiting room. Maybe your office space isn’t big enough for something like that. You can still carve out your own slice of privacy with some unique goldfish partitions. Just make sure you change the water regularly.

Extreme Office Digs

It might not be furniture, but the decor of an office doesn’t have to be drab, either. Consider thinking outside the cube with a stunning statement like wood planks that look like a swarm of bees on your meeting room ceiling? Crafty types might even be able to do something like this themselves. Plus, it’s a lot more sensible than a prickly chair.

There’s only so much another wooden desk can do to liven up your office space. Why not indulge your sky high ambitions with an airplane wing desk? Nothing says moving to the top like a piece of an iron bird. Just don’t go with this option if you have harsh overhead lights (or at least wear your sunglasses at the desk).

Serious Conversation Starters

Do you cringe at the words “modular furniture?” It takes some finesse to turn vintage style into a modern trend. Or maybe you’re still hung up on that wing desk. There’s another option if you don’t want the glare in your eyes—how about an aircraft cowling cube (left)? That one little slice of personal space you won’t mind spending 8+ hours a day in.

If uber industrial is more your style, you might be in luck. This is a real statement piece. You can also go the more subtle route. Designers will tell you it’s all in the details, and when it comes to dueling business arrangements, why not send a smoking message? You’ll get the point across.

A New Way to Organize

Most offices have stacks of industry-related books. It might not be the lightest—or most intriguing—reading materials, but you can up the oomph factor. Encourage your employees and clients to READ because there’s no way they’ll miss this bookcase. Or maybe you just need to provide a cozy place to flip through the pages.

Changing up the office with some color, odd designs, and old school or futuristic touches can make a world of difference. You know how important it is to have a Zen-like vibe at home. You probably spend more time at the office. Make it yours.
